Simplify Your Marketing Activities

It’s the last official day in our SIMPLIFY series! How have you got on? My workspace is decluttered and I’m on my way to getting an empty inbox. Hurrah!

The response to SIMPLIFY month has been astonishing and I still have so many tips to share that I’m planning on having a monthly post to make sure we all stay on track!

But first Part 2 of Simplifying your Marketing. (Find Part 1 on Simplifying your Marketing Strategy here)

Now that you have identified your message and who you will be targeting it’s time to simplify the activities you can do to send your focused message out into the world.

Here are my top 4 tips:

Go back to basics

If your marketing has becoming overwhelming, go back to basics. Choose one thing that you like doing and stick with that, developing how you use it so that you can increase it’s effectiveness. If up until now you have been using Facebook, Twitter,  Google Plus, Tumblr, your personal blog and more to market yourself, choose one to work on and master before moving on to the next.

Limit the activities you choose

I work from home around my children so I concentrate my marketing activity on social media but you might use offline marketing, networking or other activities.

Social media is convenient and effective but even within the social media category there is Twitter, Facebook, Linked in, blogging, Pinterest and many more that you can use to spread your message. I limit mine to Twitter, Facebook and Blogging because that is best for me. If you are not sure what social media is best for your business a social media audit will help you decide.

Limit your time on them

Once you’ve chosen your activities, limit your time on them! Social media in particular can be a huge time waster if you aren’t careful. As part of your social media strategy decide how long you are going to spend on it each day and stick to it. I normally spend an allocated amount of time on my Twitter and Facebook accounts then split it up through the day. This allows me to catch up with mentions and comments in a timely manner.

Create a strategy and stick to it

The best way to keep your marketing simple is to create a strategy and stick to it. If you are networking, decide how many events you will attend each month then keep to the plan. A strategy will ensure you don’t panic and start holding sales when you should be adding value, or attending every local business event going leaving you without time to work on other areas of your business.

No new marketing technique is going to be the saviour of your business. So keep it simple. Marketing is about people and it has always been that way.

How are you going to keep your marketing simple this year?

Grateful for being selected recipient of scholarship to receive a full tuition scholarship to the TSBC Spring Teleconference series starting on February 29!

I know the people I want to reach but unsure how to do it.

Would books series suggested on OMHG today be beneficial for me?

This is so true Isa! It seems like every week there’s a new “must use” social platform that you just “have” to get your business on for it to grow. That may be true, but if you’re on all these sites, how effective can you really be because you’ll be spread so thin. I think it’s best to only use 2-3 of these & I totally agree with you on learning one well before moving onto another. Each of them are different & there are different ways to use them. Thanks again. I needed this today!
