Creative Style: Spring Trend #2 Flower Power
For me, one of the most refreshing aspects of spring is the welcoming of new growth as flowers bloom and trees turn green again. This week we will pay respect to Mother Nature’s seasonal change with our next spring trend – Flower Power.
I’ll be the first to admit that the idea of floral can sometimes conjure up thoughts of Grandma’s curtains. But, don’t get nervous just yet. For Spring 2012 floral is anything but old and stuffy. This season floral comes in bold colors, can be found on surprising silhouettes, and is available in patterns both big and small as well as three dimensional accents. For this week’s post I’ve pulled together some of my favorite pieces as inspiration on how to incorporate this floral trend into your own wardrobe.
When wearing floral I generally prefer to go for bold colors and unexpected silhouettes. The J.Crew peplum top and Kate Spade cross-body best showcase this idea. Both are fun, of-the-moment styles infused with a bright floral print making the combination trendy instead of stale.
Secondly, wearing a floral print probably seems like the obvious choice with this trend but sometimes a three dimensional accent is all it takes. If you still can’t get past Grandma’s curtains, this is great way to wear the trend. My favorite go-to for a punch of floral is the yellow linen poppy pin above. Nothing puts a smile on my face (or gets me more compliments) like wearing this colorful pin with a navy blazer, dark cropped jeans and heels. It’s not overbearing and in your face, but it’s still festive and fun.
So there you have it! Now just pick the floral that best fits your closet and have fun with this trend!
