Celebrating The Simple Things
At the start of this year I vowed to simplify my life and business. I was craving a slower pace of life, the time to enjoy my friends and family and a more organised, intentional life.
A few months later, I wrote about how I was learning to be still. I finally realised that it was ok to slow down and not be charging ahead at 100 mph all the time. Since then I’ve been savouring my surroundings, turning off distractions and celebrating the simple things in life such as a pretty flower growing through the cracks in the city pavement, birds singing at dawn or the sound of the rain drumming rhythmically onto the roof.
I know many of you were also trying to do the same. You were sick of rushing through life, neglecting the people closest to you and wanted to start living in the moment once more.
So when I heard about The Simple Things magazine via Decor8 yesterday, I was so excited and I knew I had to share it here.
The Simple Things is a new magazine launching in September and brought to you by the same team that puts together Mollie Makes (one of my favourite magazines!). The team, including Jane Toft and Lyndsey Mayhew, have tapped into something so many of us are trying to do; embrace the simple things.

In a world where everyone is telling us you need to have the latest gadgets, biggest house, perfectly decorated home, The Simple Things is refreshing in that it reminds us what is most important. It is encouraging us to re-discover the beauty in the little, simple moments of life, to be happy with what we have, to live slower and look closely at the less obvious beauty in the world around us.
In their own words:
“The Simple Things is a new monthly print magazine celebrating the things that matter most. It’s about knowing the greatest rewards come from the simplest things, that there’s no satisfaction like that at the end of a long muddy walk, no pink so pretty as freshly-cut rhubarb, no perfume to compare with your own home-grown flowers. It’s about making warm inviting homes – big or small – sharing food with friends, growing your own vegetables. It’s about shopping for a coffee table only to find you’re happy with a tea chest. It’s keeping your dad’s old typewriter just because it’s beautiful. It’s an empty beach on a Sunday morning. It’s backpedaling.”
I can’t wait to read the first issue and thankfully the team have put together a preview of the magazine which you can view online here.

What simple things are you enjoying at the moment?

I love this. It’s so true that we forget all those small wonderful aspects of our lives. The preview looks great too. I can’t wait to read it.
I can’t wait either Renae!
I cannot wait for this new magazine. Like you I am trying to slow things down, enjoy things more after realising I was missing the little things which are often the important things.
I agree those little things tend to be the most important in the long run!
